Two particles of equal mass (m) move in a circle of radius (r) under the action of their mutual gravitational attraction. Find the speed of each particle.

Answer:

The two particles will move on a circular path if they always remain diametrically opposite as shown in Fig. , so that gravitational force on one particle due to the other is directed along the radius. This would provide the necessary centripetal force i.e.,
