Motion

Question:

Pascal’s law states that a fluid in a confined space expands into every possible space if it is put under pressure. This law plays a very important role in our lives.Give three applications with brief description.

Answer:

(a)The hydraulic brake is an arrangement of braking mechanism which uses brake fluid, typically containing ethylene glycol,to transfer pressure from the controlling unit, which is usually near the operator of the vehicle,to the actual brake mechanism, which is usually near the wheel of the vehicle.
(b)A water tower is an elevated structure supporting a water tank constructed to a height sufficient to pressurize a water supply for the distribution of potable water, and to provide emergency storage for fire protection.Water towers are able to supply water even during power shortages, because they rely on hydrostatic pressure produced by elevation of water (due to gravity).
(c) An artesian aquifer is a confined aquifer containing ground water under positive pressure. This causes the water level in a well to rise to a point where hydraulic equilibrium has been reached. This type of well is called an artesian well.Water may even reach the ground surface if the natural pressure is high enough,in which case the well is called a flowing artesian well.(An aquifer is a geological layer of porous and permeable material such as sand and gravel, limestone,or sandstone through which water flows and is stored. An artesian aquifer is confined between impermeable rocks or clay which causes this positive pressure.)
